SUBSCRIBERS
How do I get into the Members area of the website?
As a subscriber you are able to get in to the members section of the website, but you need to provide a username and password to the list administrator. You may write direct to the administrator, or fill in the Contact Form on the website, with details of your chosen username and password. You username can just be your first name if you like, but it can be whatever you want. Make the password something relevant to you, which you can remember. Once you supply your own username/password, it will be processed in due course.
How do I reply to posts in the Ozark forum?
Just select "reply" in your email program and write your reply. It will go direct to the Ozark list. Send in only your own reply; do not send replies with large amounts of previous posts remaining at the bottom. If you wish to quote a few lines of a post you are replying to, leave only the pertinent bits in and delete the rest.
How do I send a new post in to the Ozark forum?
Write your post and make the subject field relevant to what you are writing about. Send your post to the ozark address, which is provided to subscribers in the welcome and information message.
Why didn't my post go into the Ozark forum?
Some of the common reasons why posts sent do not make it into the list are:
Addressing: Check that you have addressed the post correctly to go into the forum. Messages sent to the administration address will only be seen by the administrator, so be sure you have addressed the post appropriately. Also, ensure that you are sending posts to the list from the correct subscribed address. You can only post to Ozark from the email address that you subscribed under. If you are sending from a different email address, your post will not go through to the forum, nor will it be seen by the list administrator.
Copies: Posts that are sent with more than one cc: are blocked by a spam filter. Remove any extra addresses from the post and resend.
Images and stationary: Posts that use fancy stationary or include inline images will be blocked by the filter. This is a particular problem with users of Incredimail, as even the plain text messages sent in Incredimail have their advertising gifs at the bottom, which get blocked in the list. Close down Incredimail, and turn off any fancy stationary to enable posts to go through the list.
If you have done all the above and your posts still are not reaching the list, notify the list administrator.
How do I send images and documents to the Ozark forum?
Images and documents may be posted, but if sent as attachments to posts, they will not go through immediately, as the program holds the posting for administrative action. If you wish your posting to go straight through, send any attachments directly to the administrator, and your post to Ozark separately. Images and documents will be uploaded to the website for users to view or download if they wish to do so. Attachments are not enabled in the Ozark forum postings.
The reasons for this are:
- Security for users - to protect subscribers from malware, viruses, or any other potentially harmful content.
- Some subscribers receive posts as text-only, yet still may wish to view certain items of interest.
- Some subscribers have limited bandwidth available, (especially those in rural areas on dial-up), and would be impacted by receiving attachments with postings, in many cases on items that may be unwanted, or of no interest to them.
- Mailing list forums with image attachments enabled may at times end up being used by individuals for personal promotion, which can inconvenience other users.
- Images in decorative stationary can cause the digests to not display properly, and make them difficult to read.
Uploading images and documents to the website enables any subscriber who wishes to view the items to do so, whilst not inconveniencing or causing a potential security risk to other subscribers.
Gallery: Ozark also provides a gallery for users to directly upload images or files. Subscribers are entitiled to create their own album. To set up your account for a gallery album, go to: Ozark Gallery
Where do I get a copy of the Ozark Rules and Information File?
